Gurugram: After a week‑long manhunt, Gurugram police have taken Kalyan Bainsla into custody in Dausa, Rajasthan. Bainsla had fled the scene of a collision on Golf Course Road where his car was accused of deliberately ramming into the bike of female rider Siya.
Case registration and initial charges
Following the incident, officers at the Sector‑56 police station opened a case suo motu, invoking Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for negligent driving.
Video scrutiny leads to harsher allegation
A thorough review of surveillance footage revealed that the driver intentionally steered his vehicle toward the bike rather than an accidental impact. Based on this evidence, investigators added Section 109 of the BNS—pertaining to attempted murder—to the charge sheet.
Manhunt and arrest
After Siya’s bike was struck on September 13, three dedicated teams were deployed to locate the suspect. Their coordinated effort culminated in Bainsla’s arrest in Dausa, bringing the chase to an end.
What happened on the road?
According to Siya, who was riding an Aprilia RS 457 among a group of bikers, the car first signaled her to halt. When she continued, the driver allegedly accelerated and forced the vehicle into her bike, causing a violent collision. A short video of the episode later appeared on Instagram, prompting public outcry.
Legal implications
Section 109 of the BNS carries a maximum sentence of ten years’ imprisonment. During interrogation, police will continue to piece together the chronology of events and corroborate the video evidence.
