Incident Summary
Early Monday morning, a bus travelling at excessive speed veered off its lane near Durga Chowk in Jwalapur, Haridwar. The vehicle careened onto the curb and struck an auto‑rickshaw along with four stationary cars parked along the roadside.
Vehicles Involved and Injuries
The collision left the rickshaw driver, Trilok Singh Gusain, gravely injured. He was immediately transported to Jolly Grant Hospital for advanced medical care. The bus also ran over a stray dog, which succumbed to the impact, and caused extensive damage to the four cars and the rickshaw.
Public Response
Nearby residents rushed to the scene, creating a bustling crowd that attempted to aid the injured driver. The sudden gathering and the wreckage caused a brief traffic jam, halting movement on the road for several minutes.
Police Intervention
Jwalapur police arrived promptly, cordoned off the area, and arrested the bus driver. The bus itself was seized as part of the evidence collection, while officers started reconstructing the sequence of events that led to the loss of control.
Ongoing Investigation
Preliminary findings suggest that reckless speed was a key factor, but investigators are reviewing driver statements, vehicle telemetry, and other forensic data before issuing a final report. The auto‑rickshaw driver remains under medical supervision, and further legal steps will follow the conclusion of the inquiry.
