Origin of the grievance

A postgraduate trainee at the blood‑bank of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda (Kangra), filed a written complaint on 28 September alleging misconduct by a laboratory technician. The allegation was passed on to the hospital administration, prompting an internal probe and the registration of a police FIR.

Doctors sound the alarm

The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) quickly mobilised a protest, insisting on swift punitive measures against the accused. They stressed that the safety of women doctors and trainees cannot be compromised. On Saturday the RDA staged a two‑hour pen‑down strike and assembled outside the principal’s office, demanding the technician’s removal and legal accountability.

Police have issued a notice to the technician, asking him to cooperate with the investigation and appear before the court when summoned. The complainant’s statement has also been recorded.

Chief Minister’s instruction

On Sunday, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu directed the college to suspend the laboratory technician pending further inquiry. While the RDA welcomed the directive, it warned that a verbal or media‑reported order is inadequate. The resident doctors will resume normal duties only after receiving a formal, written suspension order.

College awaits official notification

Principal Dr. Milap Sharma said he learned of the CM’s directive through social media but has not yet received an official government notification. Consequently, the college is refraining from any concrete action until the formal order is in hand. The institution’s website does list a mechanism for lodging workplace sexual‑harassment complaints.

Emergency services remain unaffected

Despite the ongoing demonstration, emergency care at Tanda Medical College continues without interruption. The resident doctors clarified that their protest aims to secure a safe working environment, not to impede essential medical services. Their next move depends on the issuance of the official suspension order, after which the RDA will reassess the strike and decide on a return to routine operations.
