Shimla. After a spell of dry weather, Himachal Pradesh is poised for a rapid shift. The Shimla Meteorological Centre forecasts rain, snowfall at higher elevations and strong breezes across the state from October 5 through 10, and has declared a yellow alert for a number of districts.

Strong winds expected in several districts

On October 6 the outlook calls for powerful gusts in Sirmaur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla. Wind speeds may top 40‑50 km/h, prompting authorities to advise residents to exercise caution in exposed areas and while travelling.

The following day, October 7, the breezy pattern could persist. Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla are likely to see winds around 30‑40 km/h accompanied by scattered showers.

Rain and snowfall in the hills

From October 5 to 10, isolated spots may receive light rain or snow. Between October 6 and 9, most of the state is expected to experience light‑to‑moderate rain, while the higher reaches will see snowfall.

Snowfall is most probable in the upper‑altitude districts of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Kinnaur and Lahaul‑Spiti. Mid‑week should bring the most pronounced winter‑type activity in these mountainous zones.

Temperatures set to dip

The incoming system will push temperatures lower across Himachal. Minimums are projected to fall by roughly 2‑3 °C, and daytime highs could drop between 2‑5 °C, making early mornings and evenings noticeably cooler.

Recent observations illustrate the range: Una recorded the highest daily maximum at about 34.8 °C while Keylong logged the lowest minimum of 7.1 °C; Kukumseri and Tabo both reported minima near 4.4 °C.

Caution advised during stormy conditions

With thunderstorms and strong winds possible, residents and travelers should stay alert and follow the latest updates. Those navigating hilly roads need extra vigilance, especially if conditions deteriorate quickly.

The shifting weather may also impact tourism, road travel and everyday activities in affected areas. Anyone planning trips to high‑altitude destinations should check the local forecast before setting out.
