New Delhi: Marking National Engineers’ Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tribute to the legendary engineer‑statesman Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. In his message, the PM extended warm wishes to engineers across India, emphasizing their pivotal role in shaping the country’s future through innovation and technology.
Posting on the X platform, Modi highlighted that engineers lay the very foundations of progress, turning bold ideas into practical solutions. He described Visvesvaraya’s engineering brilliance and his forward‑looking vision for India as an everlasting source of inspiration for today’s technologists.
The Prime Minister also released a short video where he noted that engineering extends far beyond building machines; it is about converting aspirations into reality through skill, perseverance, and creativity. Citing recent Indian achievements, he praised engineers who have successfully tackled complex projects on the global stage.
Recalling Visvesvaraya’s legacy, Modi remarked that the pioneer’s contributions continue to define India’s rich engineering heritage. The Prime Minister added that, inspired by Visvesvaraya’s example, contemporary Indian engineers are making their mark worldwide.
National Engineers’ Day is observed annually on 15 September, the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya (born 15 September 1861). He is especially revered for his role in modernising Mysore and for spearheading landmark infrastructure works.
Visvesvaraya’s portfolio includes the Krishna Raja Sagara dam, pioneering flood‑control schemes, and numerous other public‑works that transformed the nation’s landscape. In recognition of his unparalleled service to engineering and nation‑building, the Government of India conferred the Bharat Ratna on him in 1955. The day remains a tribute to his enduring influence.
