Gorakhpur: The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has broken up a suspected illicit firearms operation based in Gorakhpur, arresting a local individual and confiscating a substantial cache of guns and ammunition.
Arrest of the alleged middleman
The person taken into custody is identified as Ramesh Dutt Tripathi, who is also known by the aliases Bolbam, Abhishek Pandit and Chhotu. He resides in Vinayak Nagar, part of the Yamunanagar area under Naini police station’s jurisdiction in Prayagraj. STF operatives stopped him while he was reportedly waiting for a contact in the Siktaur locality.
Seized evidence
During the operation, officers recovered multiple firearms, a sizable stock of ammunition, and the suspect’s mobile device. All items have been placed under police custody while investigators trace their source and intended recipients.
Broader investigation in progress
Initial questioning suggested links that extend beyond Uttar Pradesh. The STF is now examining Tripathi’s alleged associates, including a person named Rajeev Yadav, to map the full scope of the network.
Authorities are also looking into whether similar weapon consignments have previously entered Gorakhpur or neighboring districts, and if other operatives were involved.
Legal proceedings
CO Cantt Arun Kumar S. confirmed that a case has been filed against Tripathi under the Arms Act. Further legal steps will depend on the information uncovered during interrogation and the ongoing investigation.
Next steps
The STF continues to verify the origin of the seized weapons and identify possible end‑users. Officials have cautioned that additional arrests may follow as the probe develops.
